Verktøy ("verktoy.dev") is a collection of standalone web tools. The tools themselves run in your browser, what you type into a tool is processed locally and is not sent to us. verktoy.dev has no backend or database of its own, so we never store your input on a server. This page explains the limited data handling that does take place: what is stored in your browser, which tools contact external services, and the analytics and advertising we use.
Data stored in your browser
To remember your choices, the site saves a few values in your browser's local storage. These never leave your device and are not sent to any server:
vkt:theme, light/dark themevkt:favorites, tools you have starredvkt:recall:*, your most recent input in each tool, so it can be restored on your next visitvkt:cookie-consent, your cookie choice (accepted/declined)vkt:md-wide,vkt:sidebar-scroll, minor interface preferences (e.g. layout and scroll position)
You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for verktoy.dev.
Tools that use external services
Most tools work entirely locally in the browser. A few need to contact a third-party service to do their job, for example DNS lookup, IP info, the currency converter, the HTTP and CORS testers and the user-agent parser. These tools are clearly marked with "Requires network access", and only the input you provide for that specific tool is sent. We do not control how those third-party services handle the requests.
Visitor statistics (GoatCounter)
For simple, privacy-friendly visitor statistics we use GoatCounter. It counts page views without cookies and without storing your IP address or any other personal data, it uses a temporary, daily hash that is then discarded, so you cannot be tracked across visits or sites. Because no personal data is collected, it runs for all visitors and does not require consent. We only see aggregate figures, for example the number of page views, the page you came from, approximate country and browser type.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-3YRPHJ6PJZ) to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used, for example which tools are popular, plus general device, browser and approximate (city-level) location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this data on our behalf; we do not store IP addresses ourselves. Analytics is only loaded if you click "Accept" in the consent banner, if you decline, Google Analytics is never loaded.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
The site is funded by ads served through Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-9727359161592810). By default, and if you decline, we instruct Google to show only non-personalized ads; ads become personalized only if you actively accept. Even non-personalized ads may set a limited number of cookies (e.g. for frequency capping and fraud prevention). Google is an independent controller for advertising data, see Google's own privacy policy for details.
Cookies and your choices
On your first visit, a banner lets you choose. "Accept all" turns on Google Analytics and lets ads be personalized. "Only necessary" keeps just what the site needs to work and to remember your choices (your theme, favourites and the cookie choice itself). Google Analytics is not loaded, and ads stay non-personalized. The GoatCounter statistics described above still run, since they use neither cookies nor personal data. These "necessary" values are stored only locally in your browser and are never shared. You can change your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer, or block and delete cookies in your browser. Whichever you pick, every tool works exactly the same.
